October Blog 4- Visuals in Business


I work at the Buckle and on Sunday we moved stores. Let me tell you! It was a job. Not only did we move stores we had to redo the whole entire store. We had to use a lot of visuals that job. We had to redo every table and every wall in the whole entire store. We had to make sure that all of the clothes were in a color story. A color story is when all of the clothes on the table, wall, or rack all coinciding with each other. We then had to make sure that all of the tables were visually appealing to the eyes. I never realized how much I used visuals in my daily life at work. I am even learning that we use visuals in the schools. As a teacher I am going to have to make my classroom visually appealing to students. I don’t want my boards to busy because I will want my students to focus on what is important.

Aha Blog! Osmo in the Classroom! October Blog 3


In my level two classrooms my kiddos were using the IPad to play Osmo. I think that is great because last semester in CTELE we played around with Osmo. I have never seen any other schools use Osmo. My kiddos were using Osmo to spell the beginning sounds of the words that were on the IPad screen. It really helped the kids be able to see the words and then use the tiles to spell out the words. The kids really liked it being hands on. They were very excited to play with the Osmo. They were also able to sound out the noise that the word started when they saw it on the screen.

Kingdom Rush


This week’s homework was to play a game for three hours. The game was Kingdom Rush. It was hard to get involved! I had this same homework assignment last year when I took Ed Tech and Design and unfortunately I deleted the app so I had to restart! Boo! 

Anyway, I used to play Clash of Clans so this game was a lot like Clash of Clans. Good thing for YouTube! Because I forgot how to play Kingdom Rush. Also, the tutorials at the start of the game were very helpful when I started the game.

 love to be a perfectionist so I had to get three stars on every level!  After level 27 the game started to get really difficult and I got super frustrated. I did not give into cheating though! I did ask my boyfriend for some helpful advice and after watching him a few times I was able to pass some more levels!

I did not reach Flow because I am not a big of a gamer. It took me forever to hit three hours of playing this game. This affected me a soon to be teacher because I liked the immediate feedback. I love teachers that grade things very fast.

Gender Stereotyping- October Week 2


Gender stereotyping is all over these days in media. I unfortunately see this portrayed in women being good look or men being strong and attractive. I think that when women are being gender stereotyped it is about how men look at them. I feel even like when the Victoria Secret Fashion Show comes out every year every woman is out there eating their feelings away about how they don’t look like the models, which is kind of a double negative. You want to look like that but yet you are eating away your feelings. Realistically the models don’t even look like that they still get photo shopped to look flawless. They also have to eat a strict diet and works out a ton during the day before they even are consider being a model. A way that guys are gender stereotyped is how they never cry and are always strong. It’s crazy how often you see gender stereotyping on media. I can’t wait to keep my eye open more to see how often I can catch it while watching TV.

Crash

 This movie is about racial and social tensions in Los Angeles, California. This movie is based off of a real life story. The movie has all sorts of different characters. There is a white racist police officer that deals with an African American family throughout the movie. The film is different than other films about racism in its rather impartial approach to the issue. The victims of racism are discriminatory towards themselves. In this movie a handful of people’s lives are intertwined
 as they deal with the issues of race relations that live in the city. This movie added to my visual literacy because it was about different stereotypes. I really enjoyed this movie and how the characters dealt with racism in the city.

To Game or Not to Game?


What is flow? Flow is a state of mind or a state of experience that we feel when we are totally involved in what we are doing. I’ve never heard of flow before but after listening to the video I realize I do I just about everyday. Sadly, it only happens when I am on my phone, IPad, or computer. Sometimes when I read a really good book I can totally lose track of time unfortunately during the school year I don’t have enough time. Since I am not a gamer I don’t know how I feel about video games in a classroom but I really enjoyed playing around with Osmo last year in CTELE. I think is sort of like a video game I would love to use in my future classroom. I think as kids are growing up they know how to use technology even better than me! My 1st grade cousin is a pro at Minecraft. If you asked me to pay it, I would have no idea where to even start. I think using video games in my classroom will be something I have to adapt to. I would love to learn and listen to Paul Anderson. I hope to gain some knowledge with using gaming in the classroom during this module.
